Overview

Drain cleaners are often strongly caustic (alkaline or acidic) and can cause severe chemical burns on contact. Ingestion can damage the mouth, esophagus, and stomach and may continue to worsen after initial exposure. Vomiting can re-expose tissues and increase injury. These are true corrosive emergencies requiring immediate veterinary care.
