Macadamia Nuts — toxicity in dogs
Call your vetApplies to: dogs.
Overview
Macadamia nuts are toxic to dogs, though the exact mechanism of toxicity is not fully understood. Dogs typically develop symptoms after eating 2-6 grams of macadamia nuts per kilogram of body weight. While macadamia nut poisoning is rarely fatal on its own, it becomes significantly more dangerous when combined with chocolate - a common pairing in cookies, candy, and baked goods. If your dog ate chocolate-covered macadamia nuts, treat it as a high-severity emergency. Cats do not appear to be affected, but limited data exists.
