Peach/Plum Pits — toxicity in dogs and cats

Call your vetApplies to: dogs and cats.

Overview

Peach and plum pits are dangerous mainly because they can cause choking or intestinal obstruction, especially in dogs that swallow them whole. If cracked or heavily chewed, pits may also release cyanogenic compounds that add toxicity risk. The mechanical obstruction hazard is often the bigger immediate concern. Pets with known pit ingestion should be watched for vomiting, pain, or reduced stool output.
