Overview

Cold and sinus medications containing pseudoephedrine are highly toxic to dogs and cats. These stimulant-like decongestants can cause dangerous elevations in heart rate, blood pressure, and body temperature, along with severe neurologic stimulation. Even a small number of tablets can be critical in small pets. Combination cold medicines may contain multiple toxic ingredients, so packaging is essential for treatment decisions.
