Receptionist

Utah Veterinary Emergency Center (UVEC) is a newly established, independently owned veterinary urgent care hospital in Herriman, Utah. We are building something different—a practice committed to practicing the gold standard of medicine while putting team well-being and genuine community impact at the center of everything we do. We’re looking for a warm, sharp, and dependable Receptionist to join our founding team and be the first point of contact for every family that walks through our doors.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As a Receptionist at UVEC, you are the first and last impression of this hospital. You set the tone for every client interaction—from the moment a worried pet owner calls or walks in to the moment they leave with their animal. This role requires someone who can stay calm under pressure, communicate with genuine empathy, and keep the front of house running smoothly while a fast-paced clinical team operates behind you. You’re not just answering phones—you’re a critical part of how this hospital functions.

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

  • $18–$23/hour depending on experience
  • 12-hour shifts: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
  • Maximum of 14–16 shifts per month—we believe in sustainable schedules

BENEFITS & PERKS

  • 50 hours of PTO annually—immediately vested with no accrual period
  • 3 days of sick PTO
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Well-stocked kitchen—quality coffee, snacks, and meals on long shift days because you shouldn’t have to think about food when you’re focused on clients and patients
  • Employee pet care discounts
  • No corporate red tape—independent ownership means decisions are made by clinicians, not a boardroom

MENTORSHIP & GROWTH

You don’t have to have a veterinary background to succeed here—but you do have to be willing to learn. UVEC invests in its people across every role, not just clinical staff. You’ll develop a working understanding of veterinary terminology, triage urgency, common procedures, and how to communicate medical information to clients clearly and compassionately. If you’re someone who wants to grow into veterinary medicine—whether that means eventually pursuing a technician credential or building a career in practice management—this is a launchpad, not a dead end.

WHO THRIVES HERE

UVEC is built for people who take pride in doing their job well, even when no one is watching. We look for individuals with a strong work ethic, natural warmth, and the ability to stay composed when emotions run high. The team members who thrive here hold themselves to a high standard, welcome feedback, and find energy in working alongside a team that operates the same way. You’ll be the calm in the storm for families during some of the most stressful moments with their pets—and you’ll be backed by a clinical team that respects and values what you do. Culture is everything to us. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for disrespectful or toxic behavior, regardless of experience or tenure. UVEC is a team of professionals who treat each other with respect, communicate openly, and hold each other accountable. That standard applies to everyone equally, and it’s one of the things that makes this place worth building.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet clients and their pets with warmth and professionalism—especially in high-stress situations
  • Answer phones, schedule appointments, and manage client inquiries with clarity and empathy
  • Check clients in and out, process payments, and maintain accurate billing records
  • Collect and verify patient and client information for medical records
  • Communicate wait times, procedures, and discharge instructions as directed by the clinical team
  • Coordinate client flow and keep the front desk organized during high-volume periods
  • Assist with basic administrative tasks including filing, scanning, and inventory of front-office supplies
  • Maintain a clean, welcoming reception and waiting area
  • Relay critical client communications to the veterinary team promptly and accurately
  • Represent UVEC’s standard of care and professionalism in every interaction

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in a front desk, reception, or client-facing role required; veterinary or medical office experience is a plus
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills—you are someone people feel comfortable talking to
  • Ability to stay calm, composed, and organized in a fast-paced, emotionally charged environment
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping and transactions
  • Comfort with practice management software and basic computer systems; experience with veterinary software (eVetPractice, Cornerstone, etc.) is a plus but not required
  • A genuine commitment to compassionate client service
  • A strong work ethic and the drive to continuously improve—you hold yourself to a high standard

WHY UVEC?

UVEC is not a corporate consolidation play. We are an independently owned practice founded by veterinary professionals who believe the industry can do better—better for doctors, better for technicians, better for staff, and better for pets and their families. Herriman and the surrounding southwest Salt Lake Valley communities are growing rapidly, and UVEC is here to serve them with a hospital built around modern medicine, sustainable work-life balance, and a culture where great people do great work. If you’re ready to be part of something built to last—we’d love to hear from you.
